XP is dead ! Long live TinyXP
Even though Linux is my OS of preferance, I cannot ignore Windows as there a lot of software which have no quality linux replacements and then Games.
18 Jul 2007 was the last date you could legally buy Windows XP. Microsoft simply stopped selling them so that they can promote Vista. But XP fans there is a news to cheer …Â eXPerience has just relesed TinyXP Rev09.
TinyXP contains all the updated drivers to the day and there are several custom installation options. It’s based on XP SP3. The best thing about this is that allows you to install Windows XP without the much hated Internet Explorer, Outlook express and Windows media player. These are the available install options.
- TinyXP With IE/OE/WMP (With Added Driverpacks)
- TinyXP With IE/OE/WMP (Without Added Driverpacks)
- TinyXP Without IE/OE/WMP (With Added Driverpacks)
- TinyXP Without IE/OE/WMP (Without Added Driverpacks)
- TinyXP BARE With IE/OE/WMP (With Added Driverpacks)
- TinyXP BARE With IE/OE/WMP (Without Added Driverpacks)
- TinyXP BARE Without IE/OE/WMP (With Added Driverpacks)
- TinyXP BARE Without IE/OE/WMP (Without Added Driverpacks)
- TinyXP With Repair Option (Product Key Already Filled In)
Tiny XP installs thousands of registry hacks, that improve the system so much you’ll never want to go back to the standard version. As if that’s not enough, it even includes a bunch of cool options at boot time for trouble shooting, and even a fully functional copy of the Damn Small Linux live CD!
The installation will automatically install follwing components.
Service Pack 3 Final (Build 5512)
All Hotfixes Up To May 2008
DirectX DLL Libraries (24 to 36)
Flash Player v9.0.124.0 (IE) – / – Plugin DLL v9.0.124.0 (Firefox/Opera)
Royale Theme (Options 1 to 4) – / – Classic Theme
The following applications are also included in CD are Acronis Backup & Restore, Damn Small Linux 4.3, Hirens Boot CD 9.5 and SpinRite 6.0. You can download the TinyXP ISO which is only 700 MB using torrents.
Here is a link to download it from The Pirate Bay - The world’s most loved torrent tracker. You will also find installation instructions there.

Kuldeep - August 20, 2009 at 5:18 am
Wait, is this legal?
lonetruth - July 11, 2008 at 6:14 pm
>>is this legal?
Certainly not. But who cares ?
nitinr0cks - July 12, 2008 at 11:20 am
technically, it is, as long as you install it on a system that has a valid xp license
sander - June 13, 2009 at 8:17 pm
I use TinyXP and TinyVista. I have TinyVista running fast on a Pentium 3 with only 384MB RAM and TinyXP running a Virtual Machine. I also use MicroXP.
John Goettle - July 13, 2008 at 1:07 am
try MicroXP – it is even smaller. 48MB is all the RAM it takes up after boot.
microxp - July 28, 2008 at 12:21 am
Is this 32 bit or 64 bit, because I am going to have 4gb of ram. Will Tinyxp recognize and utilize more than 3gb of ram?? or is it stuck at a 3 to 3.5 gb limit like microsofts 32 bit xp?
Jon Dzindzio - August 2, 2008 at 7:22 pm
it’s 32 bit. I am not sure of a 64 bit version.
nitinr0cks - August 2, 2008 at 8:44 pm
I didn’t know about tinyxp, that is cool!

can you get to the internet without any problems could be you need to install driver or make sure the ip settings are correct for the network and have the same subnet mask

>>A little problem!!!!
sry ! but I am not an expert in networking nor tinyxp actually. Just sharing what I know. If anyone know plz help.
nitinr0cks - August 8, 2008 at 8:38 am
Yep – I can endorse TinyXP rev09. Just found it by chance as I was rebuilding an 4yr old PC and it went well. I did option 1 install and goes fine. All I added was the /windows/help directory as I wanted the help.chm files for windows – extra 16Mbyte of disk space.
Great…. shows how MS should have done it.
AndyPandy - August 8, 2008 at 8:54 am
TinyXP is awesome I am redoing all my old pc’s with it right now. Works great on old Compaq Presario – just had to go find my video driver which was no problem because it was intel. Only other glitch so far when I tried installing The Gimp – the words/letters were just boxes so I had to uninstall and use Paint.net instead. Any one else have Gimp issues?
LittleMikey - August 10, 2008 at 4:17 am
How much RAM would I need for TinyXP? I only have 128 MB of RAM. I apologise if it was mentioned somewhere in the article. I am sure I read it all, so I thought I would ask.
Mina - August 11, 2008 at 12:57 am
128 MB of RAM is fine for TinyXP

I had the same problem but a simple fix solved it…
go to start>all programs>administrative tools>local security policy>local policies>User Rights Assignment>deny access to this computer from the network>double click it and remove guest or anything else from list….
i installed tiny xp on 6 pc’s so far and only one had guest under this… i don’t know why????actually its the only pc i did not format before installing(so if you did not follow this part of the instructions you get this problem)…. just remove it then voila it works for networking… hope i helped you
TinyXpMaster - August 11, 2008 at 4:10 pm
Yeah… loving it as well. Works great for virtual machines.
crumja - August 13, 2008 at 6:19 am
I have installed tiny XP on an old IBM600x thinkpad rather than throw it away. It works well but the only problem is that I cannot seem to install a working printer either using a USB connection or using a parallel port. Obviously I would prefer to use a modern USB printer but tinyXP does not seem to run the installation software for the printer or alternatively, there may be some patch needed for my Epson stylus D78 USB printer in order to make TinyXP recognise the USB port.
Also, I was unable to install microsoft office: obviously Office refused to recognise a non-real version of windows. I did however get a working version of Office by downloading ‘Open Office’ the non-microsoft version of office. This runs on tinyXP OK.
Does anyone have any experience of USB printers and tinyXP or more specifically, for the Epson D78? This is the one flaw that needs to be corrected as far as I am concerned.
A separate issue is the poor graphics on my IBM laptop. I do longer have the drivers and utilities for the IBM 600x and in any case, they were for Windows 98. Any ideas about improving graphics with tiny XP?

Jon Dzindzio:
I’m running Rev 06 and only 3.25 GB of RAM show up out of my 4GB.
I’m on 32 bit system.
It’s too bad. OS X and most Linux distros should pick it up though.

Hoping that this is great as it sounds for web testing on Linux via a VM.

Hi,
could you let me know if TinyXP also works on the new line of acer Nettops? Ir do I need to find drivers first? would I have to include into Tiny-CD or can I install after the XP-installation?
yr advice much appreciated
cheers
Christian
Christian Kunert - October 4, 2008 at 3:41 pm
No problem if you use the full driver pack.
You will probably have to download a video driver.
The standard one works Ok, but standby & Hibernate don’t work.
Peter Humphreys - July 23, 2009 at 1:37 am
There is an alternative version of TinyXP Rev09 specifically created for the Acer Aspire One Netbooks:
http://aspireonesoftware.wordpress.com/2008/09/30/rons-image/
I myself use this exact image and it works a treat straight out of the box (video, sound, network, webcam, microphone etc), apart from you need to correct the keyboard layout as it is originally set up for Netherlands (The instructions to change are on the above web page as well).

I have a very old laptop that I would like to intall tinyxp on, but it does not have cd rom and the usb does not work. Is there a way to put tinyxp on floppies?
Any help would be much appreciated

if printer is not working in tiny xp here’s a solution.. go to start>run> type services.msc then find printer spooler and just enable it and there you go printer installation working
concern citizen - October 11, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Unfortunately print spool has been disabled on Tiny XP and is not available in the services menu. You must understand that Tiny XP is basically a gaming operating system and is not really comprehensive enough to run a pc if you need modern and up-to date office softare on it, eg, besides not being able to to run any kind of printer, Tiny XP will not allow microsoft office to install (U must use open office) nor a whole load of other good programs which I need to use every day. I am taking tiny XP off and reinstalling Windows 98 series 2 which I jsut love to work with. Its filing system is old fashioned but it is a joy to do stuff with.
Chris Kay - October 23, 2008 at 8:24 pm
btw u can indeed use Microsoft office, and it is capable of installing printers, ive used them myself, maybe u just got a shitty copy or something, but mine worked fine as soon as i installed
nope - June 25, 2009 at 6:53 pm
I just installed TinyXP on and old HP Presario with a 533 Celeron. It came with Win98 and I upgraded that to Win2k. The only problem I have had so far is it didn’t install the Chameleon modem and I haven’t been able to find a driver for it. It recognized and installed a USB wireless keyboard/mouse combo and I was able to install MS Office 2k. Office 2k installed without a problem but I haven’t tried to use it yet. It works better and faster that it did with Win2k. I didn’t know there was a problem with installing printers on it so I hope I can install a USB printer/scanner on it. I did notice that the Remote Assistance doesn’t work on it. I’m setting this up for a friend so I was hoping I would be able to use Remote Assistance when she needs help with it.
Dee Stash - October 29, 2008 at 6:37 pm
I use Office 2003, Publisher, Front Page & a couple of printers on both Versions 4 & 9 of Tiny XP. No problems.

Go to:~

Run wbconfig.exe and setup your skins there, you can even update your skins from Stardock as well.

Can this TinyXP Rev09 update hotfix from Windows website?
Moon - February 6, 2009 at 2:17 pm
Someone said there’s no Printer Spooler available…
Of course it is!
Don’t need the terminal to enable it; just go to Control Panel, then Administrative Tools/Services, find in the list Printer spooler and enable it.
On TinyXP Vista edition this setting must be done every starting of the OS, if a printer is needed to be used.
Does anybody how to enable it permanently?

Chris, install it on one computer. The use Clonezilla to make and image of the installed O.S. Place the cloned O.S. hard drive image on a networked computer then boot up with Clonezilla on the other computers and just choose install the image and the navigate to were you have a copy of it on the network.

Hello!
I like ‘TinyXP’ a lot. The only thing I miss is the full fileselector box, the original, with the icons (‘My Computer’, ‘Network’, etc.) on the left side. Anyone who can tell me how to bring them back? I think it’s not a twak of ‘nLite’.
Thanks!

Hello.
I have been using tinyxp for couple of weeks. Everything seemed fine until I needed Acrobat PDF. I installed it (pro 8)but I can not open it. After I click on the icon It does not open. I tried Foxit and it works fine but when I need to scan something (with my scanner) and I try to convert it to a pdf file to save it, it says: Format error: not a pdf or corrupted. Does anybody know what’s going on in here?
I thank you in advance for any help provided.
kakita - March 22, 2009 at 8:47 pm
I have installed TinyXP on PC
1) There is Print Spooler, Enable it by Going:
Start>>Run>>Services.msc>>Print Spooler (Right-Click)>>Properties>>Start-up Type>> Manual
This way, it starts every-time you give an instruction to print.
2) Office XP runs smoothly. Office 2007 May give problems, not yet tested, but should work.
3) This is not a Gamer’s Edition. It’s complete XP with MANY Tweaks (Select Option 1 during Installation).
4) MicroXP is ultra Small (Smaller than TinyXP) Edition & is normally a Gamer’s / Tester’s Edition. I do not recommend installing MicroXP, if u have 128MB RAM & above.
eXPerience is a great person for tearing down XP & coming up with this Lean, Mean & Blazing Fast Edition of XP. Hat’s Off & Kudos.
I am eagerly waiting for “Tiny Windows 7″

spede - May 16, 2009 at 7:05 pm
I like the configuration with TinyXP, even tough i have a couple of licenses for XP i prefer this one for running audio applications consuming less CPU/space – it is faster. But for by business computer i still prefer the standard installation/vista for better compatibility.
Kilian Güntner - May 24, 2009 at 9:39 am
I’ve got old PC (P3 600Mh2 with RAM 256MB). Right now m running normal XP version just to listen to music, typing and watching movie (without accessing to internet).
So which of XP version, TinyXP, XP micro edition, or XP Beast edition do you think would help to improve the performance and use less resource.

Does not work on my configurations. Get BSOD on all versions except for 9 which as far as I can make out is the same as the original anyway. I know tis my Raid Card causing the problems, but TinyXP Will not let me install the drivers from the Floppy and the built in ones do not work. Thank yo for trying. Need to go back to the drawing board I think!!

If it is speed you want, forget all versions of XP-it makes so many demands on any computer. Recently I realised that the benefits of Tiny XP are imaginary: Windows Millenium edition is much faster. I took XP off and reinstalled ME and I am glad I did, my old laptop sings along. Bootup and general working are faster and better. Of course XP is more stable and more software exists now, but ME is faster.
ME is best for old computers that have modest RAM and processing power. ME is better than 98 since it has better USB support. None of us like being dictated to by Microsoft with its never-ending updates, but ME or Puppy Linux are about the fastest you can get. Linux can be booted from a CD. It has no registry to clean out and does not fragment files. Both are better than Tiny XP!
Chris kay - August 11, 2009 at 9:44 pm
LoL WinME is utter bollox. It was when it came out and it is now… nice trolling tho, it made me laugh.
Kay Chris - August 23, 2009 at 11:04 am
Hahaha and I’ve read your other post about Win98…
Kay Chris - August 23, 2009 at 11:12 am
Any version of XP is is more stable than ME/98 etc. XP is based on NT4 which came out with 95. The main difference is that XP/NT/2000 have memory cells which enables a program to crash without stalling the system.
Another problem is that there are no ME/98 drivers available for later computers.
Peter - August 16, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Poor old fella, there’s always one who resorts to rudeness. Cannot argue a point politely and leave his own name! He must, whoever he is, have some sort of problem if he gets upset about operating systems!

How do I get the task pane, on TinyXP? Also how do you remove driver packs from windows installation? I tried installing the first option but I got blue screen of death and then I tried the second option and it worked. I want to remove the driver packs of my original XP CD then install it.
Someone - September 16, 2009 at 12:09 am
Actually, never mind about the task-panes I got it to work. Still can’t figure out how to remove driver packs.
Someone - September 17, 2009 at 1:24 am
For those with older and more modest computers, you can turn either Win98SE or WinME into very good OSes *if* you install them using “98 Lite”. The resulting system is faster and more stable than you would even believe for a micro$oft OS…. of course, when “98 Lite” works its magic, you are left with what those products should have been in the first place.
Not everyone can afford computers that will easily run XP or Vista, and even those who can will often choose not to run those OSes. I can’t even tell how many times people have been amazed that my “obsolete” computers run faster than their far newer and far more expensive machines!
TinyXP and Tiny Vista sound like terrific packages, but don’t despair if your computer is not up to running them.
justin case - September 28, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Poor you, he stated more factual information than you and proved a point and isn’t even back here to argue about it.
Krisko - October 18, 2009 at 5:59 pm
Well Its Great to install tiny Xp but just remeber to backup your drivers using divergenius from portable turk.com and you will install it just 10 minutes. All you have to do after installation copy all drivers in one directory and then go to device manager and right click and update the driver from backup you will be able to finish installation in 10 minutes
Mr. Green - October 30, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Actually the most stable and fastest windows is windows 98se.
Tinyxp is just a stripped down version with tweaks. You can make your own version of tinyxp by using nlite.
Tinyxp is NOT the game version. The game version is called Tinyxp Beast edition. Tinyxp should be able to run MS Office.
andrew - November 12, 2009 at 4:36 am
